Formation of the Constituent Committee for the International Centre for Combating Media Disinformation Led by Sultan Al Hosani
In line with its ongoing efforts to enhance media integrity and confront the growing challenges within the digital space, the International Press & Media Organization (IPMO) – Netherlands has announced the launch of an international initiative to establish the International Centre for Combating Media Disinformation (ICCMD). The Centre will operate as an independent international body dedicated to monitoring, analysing, and countering media disinformation, while promoting truth, credibility, and transparency in the digital media environment.
The Organization’s media office stated that the Board of Directors has issued a resolution to form the Constituent Committee for the Centre, chaired by Counsellor Sultan Al Hosani, Secretary-General of the International Press & Media Organization (IPMO) – Netherlands. The committee will lead the foundational phase, finalise all organisational, administrative, and legal procedures, and draft the statute, regulatory bylaws, and institutional framework in preparation for the Centre’s official launch.
The Organization emphasised that the Centre will operate through an independent board of directors and an independent administrative structure, guided by the principles of neutrality, independence, and professionalism. Its operations will align with international standards and best practices in countering media disinformation, with a strict commitment to respecting state sovereignty and national legal frameworks.
The Constituent Committee will be responsible for drafting the Centre’s general strategy and developing an advanced framework for monitoring, verification, and analysis. Furthermore, it will build a network of partnerships with government entities, media institutions, and international organizations, thereby contributing to global efforts aimed at combating disinformation and enhancing public trust in information and the media.
As part of the preparations for the launch phase, the Constituent Committee has conducted a series of communications and coordination meetings with numerous press and media associations, bodies, and centres across the region. These entities have nominated representatives to participate in the Centre’s operations, paving the way for the upcoming inaugural constituent meeting, where the institutional framework will be adopted, and the official launch of the Centre’s operations will be announced.
The Organization concluded by affirming that this initiative represents a strategic milestone toward creating an independent international benchmark. This benchmark will contribute to strengthening media integrity, supporting professional accountability, safeguarding public awareness, and establishing a media environment rooted in truth, credibility, and transparency, ultimately serving the public interest at both regional and international levels.
